One of the newest models that Rolex has put out is the Rolex Yachtmaster.  The Yachtmaster was released in 1992 as model 16628.  When the watch was originally released it was only available in 14 karat gold, but can now be found in stainless steel and gold.  In 1997 a model of the Rolex Yachtmaster was released that used a combination of stainless steel and platinum.  With the limited run the watch is speculated to be very popular and highly sought after.

The Rolex Yachtmaster II was recently released and features a built in, programmable counts won and mechanical memory.  This gives the user a perfect synchronization for the start of a yacht regatta.  The watch is available in both a 44 mm model and a 44 mm model.  This model features the patented Rolex Triplock winding crown that prevents water and dust from getting into the already waterproof Oyster Case.

The Rolex Yachtmaster also features the ring command bezel, which controls the regatta chronograph.  This bezel is actually a mechanical component that is linked to the movement unlike many bezels that move independently of the watch internals.  The bezel controls the programmable countdown that can be synchronized to the sequence of the race times.  The Yachtmaster also uses the Rolex perpetual movement technology that allows the watch to be wound and powered by the normal movements of the users wrist.  While the design of this watch is extremely complex, the watch is surprisingly simple to use and absolutely beautiful on the wrist.

anniversary of Rolex as a top of the line model.  The original Datejust debuted in 1945 as an updated version of the Bubbleback.  Some of the features that the Datejust featured at this time were a new date function that allowed the user to know the day of the month as well as a self winding movement.  Red and back date markers were contained in the date wheel.

One of the key features of the Datejust was the new coin edged bezel, which eventually turned into the ever popular fluted bezzel.  Another key feature Rolex feature that debuted on the Datejust was the cyclops.  The cyclops is a Rolex feature that gives the user a magnified view of the date and allows much better visibility and size.  The cyclops actually premiered on the Datejust in 1954 and has become one of he most popular features on Rolex watches.

The Rolex Datejust was one of the most popular watches in the Rolex line up.  It was actually the premium watch in the Rolex line from the time it was released until the Day Date or President came out in 1956.  The Datejust is one of the official certified, self winding chronometers that Rolex makes.  The Datejust model has an option of 2 of the different wrist bands: the oyster and the Jubilee.  The overall most popular size of the bezel on the Datejust is 36 mm.

The Rolex Datejust is offered in a Thunderbird model that was introduced in 1955 as an award for United States Air Force Pilots that were retiring from combat missions.  One historic accomplishment that the Datejust can claim is that it was worn by Chuck Yeager when he broke the sound barrier.  The Datejust eventually became the inspiration for 3 other Rolex models: the Explorer, the Submariner and the Sea Dweller.

Rolex Watches; A Beginners Product Guide
Mar 30th, 2011 by admin

When going through the Rolex Luxury Watch line, we first must acknowledge the ‘Rolex DateJust’. It is easily the most famous modern Rolex line; is classic, but modern, and simply comes with the time and the date. Which is all most of us really need. The ‘Rolex Datejust‘ comes in sizes 26mm to (‘Datejust II’) 41mm, and in many different variations, from 2-tone, to diamond dialed. The ‘Rolex DateJust’ is a very good choice for those seeking a watch that will go with everything, and will last forever. As this watch comes in men’s and women’s sizes, it’s also an ideal choice for those looking to buy a ‘his & hers’ set.

Also check out the ‘Rolex DateJust Turn-O-Graph’, which is a little less simple-looking as it features a red second hand. This contrasts very well against the black or white dial, and makes the dial stand out a little more. As the ‘Rolex Datejust’ comes in smaller (26mm) sizes, it is ideal for women, and the ‘Rolex Ladies DateJust’ , and ‘Rolex Lady DateJust Pearlmaster’ (features the thicker ‘Pearlmaster’ wristband ) are both extremely popular with woman of all ages, and from all backgrounds.

The (currently very trendy) ‘Rolex Air-King’ is a very clean and classic men’s watch, and although easily the least expensive Rolex model, the ‘Air King’ is a favorite among young Hollywood. Even Hollywood’s ‘it girls’ have made wearing the classic and cool men’s ‘Air King’ a ‘must’ for those women bold enough to sport it. In the ‘real’ world the ‘Air King’ is a mid-sized, very versatile Rolex Watch, popular among men of all ages, the ‘Air King’ goes with most everything, is very wearable to formal functions, as well as being considered appropriate for the casually cool.

More dressy is the ‘Rolex Cellini’, a stylish hand wound Rolex watch, that is formal enough to wear out to any event. The ‘Rolex Cellini’ is classic, often-leather strapped, with no date display. Different variations of the ‘Rolex Cellini’ include: The platinum cased ‘Rolex Cellini Cellinium’ – with small second hand at 6 o’clock, and on black strap, and the ‘Rolex Cellini Cestello’. The ‘Rolex Cellini Cestello’ is subtle but stunning with its retro-looking (think ‘AMC’s Mad Men’) square-ish case surrounding a round dial, this dressy Rolex is for those looking for something ‘a little bit different’.
If stunning, but simple is key, then look no further than the ‘Rolex Cellini Classic‘. The ‘Cellini Classic is the most stripped down, traditional ‘Cellini’ model; it is stylish, classic and a very handsome Rolex timepiece. For those seeking the less-traditional, the ‘Rolex Cellini Danaos’ – features a rounded square case and bold design, and is suited to men who prefer a slightly contemporary look.

The ‘Rolex Cellini Cestello’ isn’t the only retro-inspired Rolex watch.
The rare and handsome ‘Rolex Oyster Perpetual Milgauss men’s watch’(Rolex model: 116400) is a retro-inspired, classic collectible, that’s been added to trend-spotting ‘must-have’ lists all over. A favorite with those nostalgic for classic Americana of the 1950′s and 1960′s, the ‘Rolex Milgauss’ (Rolex model: 116400 GV) is unique in that it has a green crystal, over a black dial with orange hour markers, and an orange lightning bolt second hand. Featuring a 40mm Stainless Steel Case & Oyster Bracelet, the Rolex Oyster Perpetual Milgauss Mens watch model: 116400-V’ is the most desired of all the ‘Rolex Milgaus’ watches. The ‘Rolex Miguass’ is also avail with white and black dial, behind a classic non-colored clear crystal.

For men who prefer a ‘chunkier’, but also refined, timepiece, the racetrack-inspired ‘Rolex Cosmograph Daytona’, is definitely the one to check out. It is masculine without being rugged and elegant without looking pretentious. Also great for all occasions is the classic ‘Rolex Day Date Watch’. Nicknamed ‘The President’ after a special ‘President Bracelet’ was placed on the first model (presented to President Eisenhower), the ‘Rolex Day-Date’ is known to all Americans as the ‘Rolex President’, this versatile model comes in both dressy and understated versions.

When thinking of ‘cool’, the ‘Rolex Daytona’ immediately comes to mind. The ‘Daytona’ is the very cool ocean-lovers watch that Paul Newman popularized, and features sub-dials at the 3 o’clock, 6 o’clock and 9 o’clock positions and luminous hour markers. The ‘Rolex Daytona’ features a tachymeter engraved bezel over a scratch-resistant Sapphire crystal and is water resistant to 100 meters. The ‘Daytona’ is one of Rolex’s most famous and popular models, with hipsters, and traditionalists, alike.

The world famous ‘Rolex Explorer’ is pretty much the ‘it’ watch for the nostalgic and active land-lover. Featuring luminous round hour markers skeletonized luminous hour hands, and a 40mm stainless steel case that is brushed rather than polished. Its a good thing it’s so tough, this Rolex luxury watch is a beauty! The ‘Rolex Explorer Watch’ is most famous for being launched alongside New Zealand Mountain Climber Sir Edmond Hillary’s conquest of Mt Everest, so it’s safe to say, it can weather even the toughest conditions. ‘Rolex Explorer’ also features a red hand with a luminous arrow tip pointing to the second time zone, and a magnified date window located at the 3 o’clock position. ‘The Rolex Explorer II’ is the current version of this sturdy and rugged Rolex watch.

‘Rolex GMT Master II’ is one of the truly unique Rolex watches available, and is very famous for the icons that have worn (and died wearing) it. The late Argentinian-born Cuban Revolutionist Che Guevara and World Famous American Rapper Tupac Shakur are just two of these famous names. There’s so much pop-culture history attached to the ‘Rolex GMT Master II’, that its no surprise collectors love discontinued ‘Rolex GMT Master II’ models. Solid, stylish and always hip, there’s a story to every discontinued ‘Rolex GMT’, so they’re very hard to find. Aesthetically, what makes the ‘Rolex GMT Master II’ special, is that it includes a secondary GMT hand, allowing its wearer to view two different time zones at once using the 24 hour bezel. ‘The Rolex GMT’ is great for travelers, and those who must keep tabs on 2 coasts or countries at one time. A good classic Rolex watch.

‘Rolex Yacht-Master’ is very sturdy and strong, and the latest version introduced is the Uber-cool and masculine ‘Rolex Oyster Professional Yacht-Master III Chronograph’. The ‘Rolex Yachtmaster II’ is the perfect watch for the man with an active and ocean-involved lifestyle. If a serious Diver, then the ‘Rolex Sea-Dweller’, with an underwater diving depth of 610 meters is the better choice. The ‘Sea-Dweller’, is made to industrial deep-sea diving standards. Also notable for divers and sea-lovers is the ‘Rolex Sea-Dweller 4000′, which can withstand decompression to 4,000 feet without breaking its crystal.

‘The Rolex Submariner’ is the most famous of Rolex’s Diving watches. Introduced in 1953, the ‘Rolex Submariner’ is still one of the most seen around Boat Clubs and Sailing Regattas. Stylish and sea-friendly, the ‘Submariner Rolex’ is easily identifiable by its famous Unidirectional rotating bezel, black dial with luminous hands and luminous dots hour markers. Also featuring minute markers around the outer rim and a date displays at the 3 o’clock position, the ‘Rolex Submariner’ is very popular, very solid and recognized as an extremely useful and aesthetically pleasing Rolex classic.

Looking for a true luxury Rolex? Then look no further than the ‘Rolex Masterpiece’. ‘The Rolex Masterpiece’ is an opulent luxury watch, decorated with sparkling diamonds. The ‘Masterpiece’ is available in all metals, and with a variety of dials, but all versions have one thing in common; all ‘Rolex Masterpiece’ watches feature a gorgeous diamond bezel with 32 bright white diamonds. Available for men and women, this is one elegant watch you’ll never want to take off. And as it still has a subtle sportiness to it, the ‘Rolex Masterpiece’ can also pass in less formal environments. A beautiful, luxurious and timeless Rolex timepiece. truly are perfect!

The Incredible FP Journe Chronometre Souverain Luxury Watch
Mar 23rd, 2011 by admin

Hand making every part of his first Tourbillon pocket watch was just something Francois-Paul Journe had to do in his early years of watch making.  He began his first workshop in 1985 in Switzerland.  He is considered by some to be the premier watch maker alive today.

The Francois-Paul Journe motto is “I invented it, and I made it.”  Part of the goal of this manufacturer is to create new movements and systems of time.  The FP Journe Chronometre Souverain Item ID # 18251 goes back to the traditional roots of watch making.

The platinum case of the FP Journe Chronometre Souverain measures 40 mm in diameter and resides on a leather strap.  This elegant timepiece was inspired by 19th century marine chronometry.   The mechanical movement is manually wound and has a 56 hour power reserve.

The silver guilloche dial of the FP Journe Chronometre Souverain Item ID # 18251 keeps the disappearing art of guilloche alive.  The easy to read Arabic numerals mark the hours and a subdial is located between the 7 and 8 to indicate the minutes.  The power reserve sub-dial is located at the 3 o’clock position.  The blued hands are tear-drop shaped with a very narrow point.  This elegant watch is perfect for evening or daywear.
